The proposed Gaerwen Wind Farm is one of the most damaging developments ever brought forward for our area. If approved, it would industrialise a rural landscape, harm local communities, and create risks that cannot be justified in the name of profit-driven energy policy.
This application (Reference: DNS/3276735) seeks to impose turbines of industrial scale in a location that is wholly unsuitable. The consequences would be severe and irreversible:
- Landscape and heritage damage – towering turbines dominating and degrading the character of the area.
- Ecological loss – disruption to wildlife, habitats, and fragile ecosystems.
- Public health risks – infrasound and low-frequency noise with recognised impacts on wellbeing.
- Water and soil concerns – disturbance of peatland and contamination risks affecting watercourses.
- Human rights violations – communities forced to live with constant disruption and risk without benefit.
This is not sustainable development. Scotland already produces a surplus of renewable electricity, yet local residents are expected to bear the health, environmental, and social costs for projects that deliver no proportionate benefit to those most affected.
